Coated – for print quality
  • Smooth white paper (80gsm-150gsm) and board (170gsm-400gsm)
  • The surface is coated with clay for high-quality ink resolution
  • Finishes are available in gloss, silk (satin) and matt
  • Price is not affected by finish, but silk and matt usually require seal varnish
  • Creasing is advised for folding over 150gsm, subject to grain and ink coverage
  • Most print methods and finishing processes are suitable
Uses:
  • Four colour process printing on brochures, flyers, catalogues and magazines
 Uncoated – for creative effect
  • Paper and board with texture and patterns, colours and effects
  • Generally, uncoated allows absorption which defuses resolution
  • Textures can be different each side, sometimes backed with a coated surface
  • Ink drying can be difficult, sometimes making conventional print methods unsuitable
  • Cost can be high, because of production techniques and low consumer use
Uses:
  • Mailers and brochures incorporating material within the corporate design concept
 Office – for low-cost communication
  • Uncoated paper for laser-print and hand-written communication
  • White is most common, with ranges of tints for nominal identification
  • 80gsm is the common weight for office use with competitive pricing
Uses:
  • Mono or corporate print for memos, invoices, delivery notes
  • Black print on white for information, instructions and manuals
  • Unprinted for use in desktop printers
 Stationery – for branded promotion
  • High standard material of good quality for company branding
  • Smooth, laid or textured finishes in white, off-white and tints, which can include ‘watermarks’
  • Material is uncoated to allow laser-printing, with weights that cover all stationery items
Uses:
  • Corporate print for headings, compliment slips, business cards and envelopes
